Independent technology publication for travellers
Privacy policy
A plain-language account of the limited technical activity associated with this static publication.
Scope and purpose
This privacy note describes how Night Atlas manages the limited, routine technical interactions that occur on a static informational website. The site is an editorial resource: it does not run user accounts, host a newsletter, or collect form submissions for processing on a server. The primary means of off-site contact is by deliberate email messages sent by visitors. The site itself does not automatically collect user-uploaded content or maintain personal profiles.
No accounts, no server-side form processing
There are no visitor accounts, and the site does not implement server-side form processing for contact or subscriptions. Where a contact link opens a visitor’s email application, the site receives email only if the visitor deliberately sends a message. The mailbox used for editorial correspondence stores messages sent by users at their discretion and is accessed by the editorial team for corrections and enquiries.
Client-side requests for remote resources
Readers’ browsers may request hosted resources that are not served from the static site. Common examples include design frameworks, fonts and editorial photography. These resources are requested directly by the visitor’s browser from third-party providers and those providers may receive routine request data as part of standard HTTP/S interactions (for example IP address, User-Agent, and timing). Typical examples include requests to CDN endpoints for styling frameworks, font providers, or remotely-hosted images used to illustrate articles. These requests are governed by the third parties’ privacy practices and are not controlled by Night Atlas; readers concerned about remote requests can disable remote font loading, use content-blocking tools, or view the site with such resources blocked.
Local storage and cookies
As a static informational site with no login or tracking features, Night Atlas does not set analytics cookies or advertising identifiers. The site may use very small client-side storage for theme preference or layout convenience; this is local storage or a non-tracking cookie kept only on the user’s device and not transmitted to Night Atlas servers. Users can clear local storage and site cookies at any time through their browser settings. If the site adds optional features that require persistent client-side state in the future, those features will be documented and explicit consent will be sought where required by applicable law.
External links and third-party content
Night Atlas links to official documentation, regulator sites and manufacturer pages to support our explanations. External links open in the visitor’s browser and generating those requests involves routine data exchanged between the visitor and the target site. The privacy practices of linked sites are outside Night Atlas’s control. When a linked page contains embedded third-party content (for example hosted images or interactive components), the browser may make additional requests to the hosts of that content. Readers should review the privacy notices of external websites before interacting with them.
Use of images and editorial photography
Where editorial photography or illustrative images are hosted remotely, the hosting provider may log standard request metadata. We select images with regard to licensing and attribution, and we prefer sources that respect minimal request footprints. If an image is hosted on a third-party service, the request for that image is a direct browser request to that service; Night Atlas does not collect additional data from those image requests beyond server logs needed to maintain the static site.
Retention and rights
Email messages sent to the editorial contact are retained as part of Night Atlas’s editorial records for the purposes of corrections, follow-up and accountability. If you send personal data by email, it will be used only to respond to your message and to maintain editorial records. We do not sell or share editorial contact messages to advertisers. Copyright in the site’s original editorial content is retained by the editorial project; readers may quote brief excerpts for non-commercial purposes with attribution. If you believe your copyright has been infringed by content on this site, follow the contact route on contact.html to request review.
Security
We host content on a static platform and use standard transport encryption (HTTPS). The site operators take reasonable measures to maintain the platform securely; however, no internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security. Do not send sensitive information such as passwords, one-time codes, or account credentials by email.
Changes to this notice
This privacy note describes current operational practices for a static informational website. If operational practices change—for example if the site introduces server-side forms, analytics, or account features—we will update this notice to describe the changes and provide appropriate choices for visitors. Substantive changes will be linked from privacy.html.
Questions
If you have questions about how the site handles contact messages or about the remote resources your browser may request while viewing the site, consult contact.html for how to reach us and review the list of external links included in articles before following them.
A static informational page can still cause routine browser requests. Loading a stylesheet, a font or a remote photograph asks the relevant technical service to deliver that resource. This publication does not use those requests to build a marketing profile or run analytics. Night Atlas frames this as general educational guidance for travellers, not a service offer or a guarantee.
